So, I don't have any experience in parti-gyle brewing, but have been doing some reading on the topic. For sh@#$ and giggles I wanted to try something new, so here is what happened.
I started off with a brown ale recipe I have been working on, recipe as follows,
9lbs pale
1lb Chrystal 60
1/2lb Munich
1/2lb flaked oats
6oz chocolate malt
2oz black patent
Mash 154 @ 60
1oz goldings 60
1oz tettnanger 30
1oz goldings 0
Pitched wlp200
So here is where the experiment begins. Add three pounds pale to already mashed grain along with 1/2 lb Chrystal, remash 60 min then single batch sparge.
Preboil gravity was a flopping 1.026. Experiment should have been over but I'm no quitter. So I add 1lb amber candy syrup (because I had it) and a little honey. Original gravity now 1.039. (acceptable considering I only have about 9 bucks in this beer now), then racked on partial yeast cake from Cream of three crops. I dumped about half yeast cake out thinking that would be way too much for this tiny beer.
So here is my thinking, this is going to be a thin, not alot of flavor beer, but beer none the less.
Will update when this finishes.
Let the I told you so, and what the hell was he thinking begin.
