Expanding foam everywhere after filling LMT Lid!!!!!!

Ok so I went over the top and have made a damn mess for myself with my mash tun lid. I decided to fill the thing with foam even though I don't see much loss in mash temps after it's preheated.

However as I stated I went the extra step and filled it and now foam is continuing to spew out of every pour and I never would have realized how freaking sticky the stuff becomes instantly!

Does anyone know a good chemical that could clean up the mess once everything has settled and the foam has hardened? The bottle recommends acetone but I thought that may be too harsh on plastic.

I may be buying a new cooler when it's all said in done, I wish I would have just left it alone.

If it doesn't expand so much it warps the lid, when it dries I think you can cut off the excess with a hacksaw blade.

One problem is that there's a vent hole on the underside of the lid which I didn't know was there, it's on the edge of the lid which would sit on the lip of the cooler itself but the foam is coming out of that hole as well. I guess the hole was probably there to allow any escaping cold (or in our brewers cases hot) air into the lid which would use that air to control temps better. Wish I figured this out prior to my goof.

My concern there is that the heat may get to it while mashing, not sure if it would be harmful or not or would even dissolve but I don't really want to find out.

I covered the lid with masking tape before drilling the lid, so when the foam expanded out of the lid it didn't get on the lid, just on the tape, when it dried I just started peeling the tape removing the excess with it, some trimming with a razor blade and I was in good shape.

As for removing the expanding foam, I have not found anything that removes it, I got some on my hands and had to let it dry and then sanded it off. that sh!t is tough to get off!

I now see first hand how sticky and tough it is to remove, my hands are stuck to my leather sofa!

Kidding but seriously, it's a mess. I had no idea how much this stuff expanded.

It's now starting to dry some so I put gloves on and was able to peel some of it off. I may try to sand the plastic to get anything that sticks to the bottom of the lid off.

The masking tape idea would have been extremely helpful wish I would have asked before I did anything.

Acetone or Laquer Thinner helps, just don't let it sit too long on the plastic or it will melt it.

Oh no! Be careful it is extremely hard on clothes and your skin. They have some foam that expands less than the normal foam, but dont fill the vessel more than half way without pausing to let it expand. It will continue to expand as it hardens. Best of luck.

The Window & Door variety doesn't expand quite as much.
