So I just came home to an extremely excited wort(maybe a little to much o2 first time aerating) , blew off my airlock made a slight mess. Anyway I made a makeshift blow off tube with some tubing and a bung, has anyone crafted a blow off like this?

When I get blow outs/offs I just leave the bucket lid off or the tube out for a while until it stops spewing and then put it back in. What you have is fine as long as the tube doesn't get clogged then it will just blow again. Might want to get some 1" tubing (or size that fits in the hole) for next time. This time I got some fermcap so hoping that takes care of anymore blow outs.

This is what I do as well. Only time ive had a problem is with my raspberry ale. Raspberries clogged the tube so I switched it out to a 1.25" OD (i think) tubing without the bung and just stuck it directly into the carboy.

Thanks for the ideas! This just happened to be what I had lying around the house, unfortunately the closest brew supply store is about a hour away :-(

I do exactly what you did, and I don't think you have to worry about clogging the tube unless you are using whole hops. I have never clogged it :)

Home Depot sells 1" tubing as well, cheaper as well typically.

I've gotten fairly handy with the local hardware store (it's no Home Depot but it's got the necessities) I'll have to swing by there the next time I go into town.
