Hello everyone,

I go to drexel University in Philly and am part of a fraternity here. Over the past few years, the number of brewers in our undergraduate and alumni network has grown exponentially. Last year we held our first internal homebrew competition.

We held the competition in someone's home and it was very difficult to accommodate the event. This year we are trying to expand the event a little bit. Anybody from the area have any ideas for a location?

thanks.

Can you get a local watering hole to agree to open early or something? Maybe get a local restaurant that's not normally open on a Saturday, or do like our local club did and rent/borrow a meeting hall from the Elks or Rotary club (or other similar organization.)

If you go the route of using a members only club (Elks, VFW...) be clear that you want to bring in your own alcohol. PLCB laws and PA liquor licenses are very strict when it comes to where said alcohol came from. If this event will take place when the weather is pleasant, look into renting a shelter at a state park. They will allow alcohol consumption by of age individuals at the shelter site only so no roaming with a pint.

Yes, be sure to check your state laws on alcohol posession/consumption. I know in Georgia there is a law that basically says you have to have a liquor license to hold an event like a homebrew competition, but there's some noise about changing that law.
