I'm new to the forum and new to home brewing. I plan on purchasing northern brewers deluxe starter Kit and the mad brewer upgrade Kit and was wondering if Anyone has an thoughts and opinions on this equipment...

I started a year ago July 1st. I started with the NB deluxe kit. It comes with everything that you need except a pot, ingredients and bottles.

That allows you to decide on what you eventually want for a pot. I started with a 20 qt aluminum stock pot, then a 30 qt aluminum turkey fryer pot until I scored two 10 gallon ss pots off Craigslist. I did the Irish Red Ale Kit first and the Patersbier as my second. I recommend either (or both).

I bought some bottles but you can ask your friends to save some for you. They need to be pry offs.

I have to look the mad brewer upgrade, but I am sure it is stuff you would get anyway.

You do need the mad brewer kit. You will be able to get your original gravity and final gravity and get an accurate gauge of your abv. This kit is everything you will need for extract kits( besides the pot). If you are planning on getting a pot I would recommend getting one that is 32 qts or more. This will set you up if you choose to do all grain in the future. Congrats and welcome to the cult.

They have changed the deluxe kit. The hydrometer, test sample tube and the wine thief used to be included in the kit.

I would at least get the hydrometer and probably the book. I have Fermcap-s and rarely use it anymore.

You might be able to buy separately for less.

Thanks for the welcome ...!! I plan on getting the polar ware 10.5 gal economy kettle.

I believe the mad brewer upgrade comes with a hydrometer and a book as well. I just want to make sure I get everything I need so once it comes I can start my first batch and not have to go buying items at the last minute.

Check on the bottles and the water... And the deluxe kit has a choice or recipe kits... I plan on doing the American wheat beer so I believe it will have the hops and the yeast included. This will be my first ever brew so I figured it would be easier to start with a recipe kit and beside its included anyway.

So I ordered me equipment last night. The northern brewers deluxe starter kit and the mad brewers upgrade kit. The only thing I did not get was the polar ware 10.5 gal pot (swmbo said I'd have to wait on that) so I was wondering if I could just go and buy something at a local store. Walmart, shopko, ect...

Yeah they want $80.00 for the polar ware 10,5 gal on northern and about the same at Walmart, shopko ect but their no 10 gal. So if I can get one cheaper I will otherwise I will prob just wait and order it online.

Biggest I've found at Walmart is 22 qt stainless, tri ply bottom for 60 bucks. Good for stovetop but not AG.
