So, I finished my first batch yesterday, and cleaned all my equipment after I was done so that it would be ready for next time.

Perusing through the forums this morning, I come across a cleaning question and a post that says NEVER NEVER NEVER use dish soap.
I used dish soap (not a lot, but soap nonetheless).
Is there a quick fix for this, or am I destined to have to rinse the stuff off for an insane amount of time??

Anything that can fit in the dishwasher should go in without soap. Anything that can't, put a hose in and let it run. Rinsing is the only solution.

I've been homebrewing for over ten years & have cleaned my gear with dish soap regularly - yesterday even. Granted, not everything but hoses, valves, carboy caps, siphons, pots, immersion chiller, etc. with absolutely no issue. I don't clean kegs or carboys with dish soap, though. Only OxyClean there. Also, after I rinse the gear it soaks in Star San or other sanitizer.

You'll be fine. You'll come to realize some are way more anal than others & almost always what you've done will not ruin your beer. Always harken back to good 'ol Charlie P. with his "Relax....have a homebrew" mantra..

Get some PBW or Oxyclean FREE. The stuff with no perfumes in it and give everything a good soak and rinse. I imagine it will clean up all right. I have a friend who did the same thing a while back. His beer had a soapy aftertaste until he gave everything a good soak with the right cleaner.

After reading all the different posts, I decided to re-wash everything in OxyClean (I assume the kind that we have for laundry will work just fine)
Gave everything a good wash, rinsed well and then dried.

Should I sanitize and then store, or can I just sanitize all the stuff when I need it next?

I usually just clean, rinse and store. I rinse it all off again and then sanitize when I'm going to use it.

I use the Oxyclean Versatile, but many use the equivalent generic brand.

You have to be careful to rinse OxyClean thoroughly. It does leave a residue if not rinsed very well (just get some on your hands & you can feel it when rinsing) & definitely not meant for consumption. Regular soap (fragrance free) is better IMO unless for the tougher jobs such as carboy gunk, kegs, etc.

Should be fine if well rinsed...

Seconded - I used to fear the dish soap. When I started brewing with a few buddies, they washed everything with it. Plastic buckets are pretty easy to get clean and clear with soap and Pittsburgh water. As long as you only used a little, you should be fine.

The gotcha though is if you're using soap, you're probably scrubbing with a sponge or a carboy brush which leads to scratching. A good soak with something like PBW gets the gunk off without the scrubbing.

I used a very soft cloth (old baby washcloth)

Abrasives shant come in contact with my gear, especially plastic buckets and scratchable stuff.

Soap is fine as long as it's completely washed off. The same goes for bleach. It's fine to use just make sure it's rinsed well.

I clean everything with a bit of dishsoap, and then rinse and dry thouroughly. No problems.

Now, if it's cold-side, it gets rinsed and then sanitized.
