Ties would be worse. Ever see a team pull the goalie during a tie in the final mintues?

The current point system is really the only one I've found to make sense and keeps things compeititve (relatively) Unfortunetely the players/coaches don't jo for teh juggular in the finalminutes to prevent OT or a SO. To me they seem to hope to win it in the SO because its an easier loss to swallow... Case in point last night MTL v WAS.

I've never seen a goalie pulled in a tie at ANY time! The odds of scoring against being scored on is so bad, they'd be stupid to even consider it.

I've seen it when there is less than 5 seconds left in the game/period with an offensive face off. It's rare, but it happens.

I've seen teams do some wild stuff in must win games to get into the playoffs as well.

I can't stand rewarding failure simply for making it to overtime. The only team to get points should be the winning team. Give them an incentive to win the game as early as possible. It takes away the opportunity for a team with more SO losses to make the playoffs over a team with more regulation wins.

Example, a team goes 35-28-19 (89 pts) is higher in the standings than a team that goes 40-34-8 (88 pts). Winning should be the only thing rewarded in the standings.

There is absolutely, positively, indubitably, nothing wrong with earning one point in a hockey game. It's not as good as two points, but it's still a point.

I think most people are brainwashed from other sports to consider a tie meaningless. However, in hockey a tie earns the team one point. One point can decide a playoff spot.

Earning a point is a good thing. Thus, ties are a good thing. (unless of course, the other team sucks and you really should have beaten them)

Ask my Flyers from last year how important one point is...that last one coming from a shootout win.

Ties just leave us hanging...no closure. There must be a winner and a loser, otherwise, what's the point of competing?

I'm ok with each team getting a point if ties existed, but since there is a winner and a loser, there shouldn't be any points awarded for losing.

It would be interesting to see how much the standings would have changed, maybe who wouldn't be in the playoffs from last year's standings if the 3-2-1-0 point system were used.

The Florida Panthers should not be allowed to wear that Flyers-style home jersey. (Oops, make that white jersey) Not that I'm a Philly fan, but that is an iconic look. The Panthers just look like a bunch dag-nabbed copy catters!

That was the most pathetic goalie fight I've ever seen.

Actually he hit him right on the button, that's what happens. Your legs buckle and you fall like a newborn deer. It certainly wasn't the savage beating Osgood put on Roy, that was awesome.

Hit him on the button, fine, but it takes two to put on a great fight and only one fighter showed up therefore it was not an awesome fight. Awesome KO, yes but not an awesome fight.

Ah, those were the days.

And people still want to harp on the Flyers for being the bullies when everyone loves a good fight or two. I mean, who didn't enjoy (other than Sens fans, of course) the game when the Flyers beat the Sens on the scoreboard and physically and the teams set the NHL record for PIMs in a game?

Exactly. I love a good scrap or two in a game.

The sad part is Hextall would be constantly suspended in today's NHL. Crazy as he was, he was just as talented. It's a shame his return to Philly ended the way it did.

My favorite Hextall quote goes something like this, during the 87 finals against the oilers, hexy's rookie year.

He stones gretzky on a breakaway and as gretzky is skating away he says, "Who the hell are you?!?"

Hextall responded, "who the HELL are you!"

It must have been a pretty good shot, DiPietro is out 4-6 weeks with a broken jaw.

I just read that Malkin has a torn ACL and MCL...add that to Crosby and the rest of them out and things aren't looking good in Pittsburgh.

Flyers put forth another solid effort to move to 12-3 since the start of 2011.
