Hi all,
I'm just keen to get a bit of feedback on this recipe I am putting together. The aim is to have a similar clone to that of EPIC Brewing's Zythos IPA (New Zealand Brewery).
I have read the website and it does list the malts (not ratios), but never used Munich as a base before - some feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Here is what I am thinking

Batch size = 23L (6Gal)
ABV = 6%
IBU = 50-55

Grain:
Gladfields Munich 80%
Gladfields Caramalt 10%
Gladfields Medium Crystal 10%

Hops:
10g Zythos [9.8% Alpha] @ 60min
20g Zythos [9.8% Alpha] @ 30min
40g Zythos [9.8% Alpha] @ 10min
100g Zythos [9.8% Alpha] @ 0mins
50g Zythos [9.8% Alpha] whirlpool

80g Zythos [9.8% Alpha] Dry hop 4 days

Yeast:
Safale-05

Ferment at 18C

Hi, I've not had this beer, so can't comment on the cloning aspect. I would say that 20% cara and crystal malts are a lot in a typical IPA - most recipes seem to stick to 5% as an upper limit.

Any idea what original gravity you'll be targeting?

Cheers for the feedback mate :)
Thinking my target gravity will be about 1.060 - want to make it approx 6%. I've noticed any higher than this and i seem to get real harsh alcohol flavours - and I'm not sure why though?

Agreed on lowering cara/crystal, especially if Munich as the base malt.

Bro,
I asked luke about these recipes (one trick pony) awhile back. Specifically the hop ratios, he basically said the hops are the same as the Pale ale for time/schedule. Based on the malts listed on the website, i stuck with similar to the Epic Pale Ale, without C-Pils. His exact words on these beers were they're slightly stronger, with big similarities to EPA. Use the hop schedukle from EPa and you should come close.

something like this should work.
5kg Golden Promise 80%
500g Munich
500g Baird's Caramalt
350g Fawcett Pale Crystal
OG Should be 1058-60
75 minute boil

10g Cascade 7.5%AA at 75m
15g Cascade at 30m
35g Cascade at 10m
45g Cascade at 0m
Wait ten minutes
45g Cascade - hot whirlpool for 10 more minutes
55g Cascade dry hop dose 1 at ferment temps for 5 days
55g Cascade dry hop dose 2 at cold crash temps for 5 days

Wyeast 1272 American Ale II

Mash at 148F

Let me know how you go.
alkternatively, use Mosaic forthe other one.

I should point out that you should use Zythos instead of Cascade.... Whoops.

Oh woah that's awesome bro! Have never come across the EPA hop schedule before, real keen to give it a go now. Thanks heaps!
