for the last month I have been to this site tons of times looking up answers. Today I decided it was time to join. So, here is my recipe for a Black stout. I built this on Beersmith can anyone give me some feedback as to taste and just what you think in general. Thanks

5-Gallon batch

7.00 lb Pale Liquid Extract (8.0 SRM) Extract 65.12 %
0.50 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 4.65 %
0.50 lb Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) Grain 4.65 %
0.50 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) Grain 4.65 %
0.25 lb Black (Patent) Malt (500.0 SRM) Grain 2.33 %
1.00 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) [14.00 %] (60 min) Hops 29.0 IBU
1.50 oz Cascade [6.00 %] (30 min) Hops 14.3 IBU
0.50 oz Williamette [4.80 %] (15 min) Hops 2.5 IBU
2.00 lb Honey (1.0 SRM) Sugar 18.60 %
1 Pkgs Nottingham Yeast (Lallemand #-)

thanks, going for a Black stout with a good sturdy head, I wanted a higher alcohol so I added honey(i currently have a lot) also to get some of the honey flavors into it. I have never used Columbus I just found it at a store onsale and thought I'd try it. Thanks for the comments

I like the recipe.

My only concern would be going too heavy with the roasted malts. Since you are lightening the body of the beer by adding honey, the roasty tannin flavours will be a bit sharper.

Maybe you could reduce the roast barley a bit, or save the honey for a less roasty beer.

It will taste great regardless.

Brew IT!

Thanks, I couldn't wait so I brewed this today with a friend and my father inlaw. It was a great time. You were dead on the roasted flavors were sharp on the green taste. We'll see how it comes out in the end bottling in two weeks then aging for 3. I did have to change a few things:
I had to use 6 lb's Dry Amber Malt instead of the LME
put in around 4 lb's of honey at end of boil instead of two
Added .5oz chinook hops (45min) as well.
changed my cascade to 1oz during boil and dry hopped the .5oz
Lots of things went right but store didn't have all I wanted so had to change things a bit.
