I had a Mr. Beer English Nut Brown kit that I hadnt used yet so I made it a little over 2 weeks ago. My other Mr. Beer attempts didnt turn out but this one I think is tasty. I made in my midwest kit as a half batch and used a yeast propagator instead of the little dry pack they send out.
Now to the question. I say this is tasty but I have never tried a commercial nut brown. Are they typically a sweet, dessert like beer?
 
I've made Midwest's Nut Brown kit, and I wouldn't describe it that way. The best thing to do is to find some Samuel Smith's....pretty much the Nut Brown that is the basis for comparison.
 
Unfortunately (for me), southern English brown ales are indeed tough to come by stateside and getting tougher to come by in Old Blighty (England) as well. Mann's is the main one in England, but it appears to be something of a dying breed. I dig 'em, personally, but I like sweet, malt-forward beers with zero hoppiness. Southern browns are generally pretty low in alcohol (~3.5-4.2%), of medium body, and flavorfully malty, but absolutely sessiony beers.
 
I found a six of Leinen(L?)iugel's Fireside Nut Brown. As comparisons go I'd say Im really close to this but mine is a bit sweeter and doesnt have the smoky hints present in this one. All in all I'd say I got it. speter and nigel31 pretty well described what I have. Thanks for the responses.
