So I was just finishing up with a citra ipa. Had the ole wort chiller going. It is fed from a garden hose that is fed by my city water. So all the sudden mid chill the end fell off and some city water got in my brew! In all my years this has never happened. It has been fermenting away about 8 days, so far so good. No signs of infection. But I am guessing it will get there. Dammit...

The likelihood of infection depends on your water supply. When I was using bleach as a sanitizer I use to rinse it off with the city water and never had an infection.

Sounds like you need to drink that one while it's fresh, but then IPAs are better that way!
I had a similar fail quite a while back, pumped about 1/2 gallon of city water through the chiller and into the beer. I don't recall any adverse affects from it.
If you look at the instructions that come with extract kits they finish with 'fill with water to reach the final volume' or some such words. As long as your city water is not really bad you should be fine. The fermentation and resultant alcohol do a pretty good job of keeping stuff under control. Something aged for a year, maybe not.
