Hi all. I am coming back to home brewing after a 10-12 year break and I'm in the process of putting together my brewing system. I had a question about the fermentation chamber I'm putting together.

I bought a Avanti 2.5 cu. ft. Superconductor mini fridge (SHP2501B) to use for my 6 gallon carboys when fermenting and I got a Johnson temperature controller for it as well.

My plans are to set this up in the opening under my kitchen counter where the dish washer used to be. I know air flow to the fridge can be an issue but since the opening is about 24" wide and the fridge is only 17" wide on the outside I think I have room to have a small fan or two in there to keep air circulating.

Since I only really need the fan running when the fridge is on I wondered if it's possible to have the Johnson controller turn both the fridge and fan on/off at the same time. My thought was to hook them both up to a power strip which then plugs into the Johnson controller. When the controller turns off the power strip it should stop both the fans and fridge.

The question is do you think this would cause any issues? Most power strips have a surge protector and it would be a pain for that to get tripped when power comes on again - not sure it would but I just bought a new house and really don't want to burn the place down. :cross:

Running a couple of fans from a wall wart plugged into a strip with the fridge will be fine, the fans will draw very little power...

Cheers!
