I used the wrong bucket, the bottleing bucket, for my primary.

first batch, nut brown. Its been there since the 18th.

When would be the best time to rack to a new bucket so I can clean the bottleing bucket to use for bottleing? Should I just wait until I'm ready to bottle in another week or so?

Thanks for helping with my bone head move

I would leave it in the bottling bucket for a total of 4 weeks, then rack it to the regular bucket. I would just be aware of how much aeration it gets while you do this racking. Having to do the extra racking could introduce some more oxygen than normal.

I would rack to your other bucket when its ready and bottle straight from that bucket by just attaching your bottle filler your auto siphon and tubing or whatever you use. I don't even own a bottling bucket and always bottle from a regular primary type bucket.

I would wait until bottling day and rack twice. If you have a few extra bucks, you could buy a second bottling bucket, it will come in handy someday, and save you the trouble of racking twice on your first bottling day. Make sure everything is sanitized, and good luck.:fro:

Do this! I bottle 2 batches at a time quite frequently and enjoy creating a few mix bottles.

Just becareful where you set it, I just went to bottle a batch of blackberry wine and apparently I thought the nozzle was hanging over the edge, but when I set it down the table forced it to be launched upward and out of it's position and blackberry wine was spraying everywhere while I stumbled around for the nozzle. Enjoy.

Awesome, quick responses. Thanks guys

Think I'll try to rack it twice on bottleing day. 2 more weeks.

Think I may try a porter this weekend. At least I know I won't use the wrong bucket again

Of course it had to be blackberry and not white.:)

Remember to keep the fermentation temp down, I see you're in Texas.:mug:

As long as I can continue to not make a mess I've got the bucket in the house.
If something explodes, spills, seeps etc... me and the beer will be in the garage

Somehow I convinced my SWMBO to help me bottle one time and she thought it was fun. Now the mess is OUR mess and she's ok with that. :). She has no interest in beer but likes to say she took part in part of the process. Lol
