This is just a suggestion when rehydrating your dry yeast.
I'm a little bit anal about anything extra having to touch my yeast so the last time I was rehydrating my dry yeast in a glass measuring cup I placed the thermometer (a rotary metal food thermometer) underneath the glass container instead of inside. It seemed to work just as well at telling me when I was inside the recommended yeast hydration temp (86-92 on my package of Nottingham) and also kept the thermometer out of the water, a win/win.
-Good brewin-
Currently drinking: Portland Pale Ale, Brewers Best IPA
Currently fermenting: Kalamazoo IPA, Green Amber
