dry taste? Like kind of a puckering feeling?

yeah i guess.. thats pretty close to what im talking about... my swmbo says that is kinda a sour aftertaste

If the dry taste feels as if su suddenly have dust in your mouth then this is either oxidation or the taste of yeast.

I get this once in a while in my beers if I wasn't careful while bottling or racking from keg to keg.

Is it kind of an astringent taste? If so, that could be if you got the grains too hot when steeping, and they extracted some tannins.

no not really.. im pretty sure its a yeasty taste... im confused at what i could have done wrong concerning the yeast...

thanks for your input again...

You got me. Looks like a decent recipe, although I don't think they have you steeping the grains long enough (I usually steep for 30 - 45 minutes at ~ 160). But, that wouldn't cause the yeast flavor to be overly pronounced. I'd set it aside for a little while and see if it improves, a lot of flavors will mellow over time. I bet when all is said and done, it's fine.

That's the test for a beer's ripeness. To find out for yourself you'll need:

3 bottles of homebrew (36 ounces)
A decent meal
A wife or girlfriend

Consume the meal with the beer (gf optional). The following day, if you're farting a lot and your gf or wife asks you why is smells like someone set a skunks ass on fire and doused it with urine, you'll know that your beer is still green.

If you don't have a wife or GF, do the sheet test: if you can blow your comforter off the bed while lying on your stomach, it's green as a mo'fo.

For most of us men over 35, the gas test does not work. We have bad gas everyday!:drunk:

But yes green beer can taste dry and bitter. I would wait another week and see what happens.

well, just wanted to say its been a week, and the taste i was talking about is almost gone.. and the beer tastes great for my first brew! With even a bit more time i know it will be even better...

Thanks to everyone that helped me with this great new hobby...
