i just finished my first beer calling for dry hopping. piss poor instructions paired with poor research by myself ended up with me putting the dry hops in at the same time as the yeast, just after the wort cooled and poured into the primary. i now know i should have waited for the first few days of fermentation to pass but i blew it and my time machine is in the shop.

so my question for you, my beer brewing brethren....

on a scale of 1 to 10, how screwed am i?

Not screwed in the least. How does it taste? If it needs more hops aroma after a couple of weeks, you can dryhop with some fresh hops. I like to dry hop the last week before bottling, for the best aroma and flavor.

Heck, you might have discovered something pretty neat tasting. If you have any extra hops, you might toss some in a little while before bottling, just to get that extra aroma, since the active fermentation has likely killed any aroma that you had, however, the taste will still be effected, although not necessarily for the worse.

You've just created a new hop addition, somewhere between flameout and dry hopping. What would you call that?

im liking the positivity...

i was worried about possible contamination after reading a few threads about dry hopping, something about the alcohol from the fermentation keeping any bacteria on the hops in check.

i guess ill give it a taste in a few days

did i just create a new step in the brewing process?
does this mean i get go name it?

AWESOME!!!!

its gonna have to be something good so ill take some time to think it over.... and i am open to suggestions

Hops have a natural antiseptic quality that makes it very difficult for nasties to survive on them. Contamination is extremely unlikely so don't worry about that.
