Planning on racking a stout to my secondary and was thinking about brewing an imperial IPA this weekend. If I did this I'd probably have to dry hop the IPA in the primary. Is this a bad idea?

Not at all. Many of us dry hop in primary. just wait till the beer hits FG & settles out clear or slightly misty first. This will prevent the hop oils from coating all the settling yeast & being lost.
