Does this look like Lead in this Crock?

Hello, I've purchased a lead testing kit and tested this crock twice, but am not seeing the red or pink indication on the tester.. Can anyone confirm or deny whether this is lead?

Looks like spoon marks........Kinda' like I see in the bottom of my white coffee cup, when stirred with a stainless spoon.......

My take: If you got zero indication, then you got's zero Lead....

That looks like a crock pot liner. If so, it is food safe. Did you have any reason to suspect lead? Whoever left those marks should have used a wooden spoon, but it was probably stainless steel. If your test is negative, then you are good to go.

Well it was recently bought at a thrift store, I made the mistake of using a metal whisk when stirring up a batch of meade (will probably get ride of this or use a silicon coated whisk next time). The only reason I suspect there may be lead is due to the fact that crocks used to be treated with lead:

The test didn't show up positive, but a lot of dark/black colored material showed up on a swab test used, which is a bit concerning.

Apparently the CrockPot brand is intelligent enough to not use lead, but I don't believe it is a CrockPot.

Spent about $23 on local, raw honey and would hate to waste it!

Yes, Lead used to be prevalent in the glazes on "crockery", but that was probably.......40+ years ago.

Got a date on the bottom, perhaps?

I now understand your concern. I did notice that FDA said no crock pots, including Crock Pot brand, were found to contain leachable lead. I believe you have done all a reasonable person can do, and you are safe.

For what it's worth: I'm an old guy, and I grew up eating homemade sauer kraut and hominy, brewed up in ancient 5 gallon crocks that I am certain had a lead glaze. I turned out alright, and my other head says he did, too. Good luck!

Remembered your topic when cleaning a crock pot liner this morning. I was cleaning some stubborn chili stain with Barkeepers Friend. Had some of the black marks on the bottom of the liner. Had always thought I scraped some of the glaze off. Wiped the marks with the BF and they were gone. The marks were residue from a steel utensil. Never could scrub the marks off with Dawn dish soap.
