Does this look bad?

OK well when I first took a big sniff I coughed because it was so pungent. I think I just took a sniff of the gas sitting in the top of the fast ferment. Because I then tried some and it wasn't bad but not great. Definitely not skunked. But hopefully it'll get better over time in the keg. It's the caribou slobber brown from NB.

Thanks all.

Ha! Huffed some co2 did you. It doesn't even look done. How long has it been fermenting? A beer often tastes far different when carbonated compared to right after fermentation. If it is not done fermenting there could be a lot of possible off flavors that the yeast will take care of as they finish the job.

I taste every step of the way. And when I open the fermenter sometimes I get hit with gas! Focus on science, not when it should be done. Take hydrometer readings. I go for 1.010. But I'm a big IPA brewer. Every FG will be different.

How does beer look done by the way? It's not chicken!?

Looks healthy as healthy can be.

How long has it been fermenting? If I had to take a guess I would say 2 weeks. Check the gravity to determine doneness, then go from there

It's been fermenting since father's day. 2 weeks in primary and 3 weeks in secondary. The hydro meter showed 1.012 and 5.5% ABV.

It was done by I wonder if it collected gas in the top and I stuck my nose in and took a big wiff!!

After a few days in keg it's pretty good. Needs a bit more time to agree. It'll be perfect for fall!
