Does anyone own the book "Clone Brews"? I have some questions on the directions.

Hi all, not sure if this is the correct place to post this question, so I'm sorry if so. Anywho, my wife bought me "Clone Brews" for Christmas. It has over 200 recipes of commercial beers. Pretty good ones too. All the recipes are for extract with an all grain option at the bottom. However, nearly every recipe calls for a 90 mash and a 90 minute boil. And the hops are measured in HBU's (Hombrew units) which is confusing for me to figure out. Question is, should I continue doing my normal 60 min mash and 60 min boil, and just follow the hop schedule as per the extract recipe and try not to follow the crazy HBU percentage? Seems like a good book, but also seems difficult to follow. Anyone use this book? Thanks all for the help!

That's exactly what I do when I pull recipes from it. Of the recipes I've used I'd say it's a very good book to have.
 
In my honest opinion those recipes aren't really close to clones, they will make a beer in the "style of" a commercial beer.
 
That's fine with me. I don't really want to make an exact clone beer anyways. I can go buy those beers, to me it's the fun in making something new and original. I suppose it gives you decent guidlines to make your own.
 
I have that book and have made recipes from it, but I never realized the HBU numbers and the mash/boil times. I thought most of them were all around 60 minutes. I believe I had always done the 60 min mash and 60 min boil, but I don't have the book with me at this very moment, so I'm not 100% sure. Like Embracethefunk said, those weren't really close to the actual beer, but it was still beer, and it was enjoyed.
