I need to add LME to a Barley Wine - I forgot to add it during the boil.
I will be adding the entire 4L bottle which is still sealed. Im thinking that it must already be sanitized, if it weren't it would be infected.
Do I need to boil it before adding ?
If I need to boil it how much water must I add to it before boiling or can I boil it as is ?

LME like maple syrup or molasses has such a high concentration of hydroscopic sugars that microbes have trouble growing (but there may be some in there). If you just added it odds are that you’d be alright since the extract goes through a full boil at the factory, especially since your beer already has a good deal of alcohol. That said, I’d think that best practice would be to combine it with enough water (not sure how much) to prevent it from scorching and at least bring it to a boil.
