Do I need a thermowell for this PT100?

Does anyone else use this PT100? It looks like the sensor probe could used without a thermowell. Does anyone know if they need a thermowell or not with this sensor? I have two of them that came with the Mypin PID's I bought to control my burners.

Definitely no need for a well with that probe assembly...

I guess I just need a o-ring and I can install it. Is there a particular spot in the kettle that is ideal for placement?
