DIY Water Filtration?

Has anyone done one before? The water in my house has a somewhat weird aftertaste (I'm guessing due to the pipes). When I use my Brita pitcher it gets rid of the taste but the amount of time and hassle to get all of the water I need for an AG batch is not worth it and I just end up buying jugs of water. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to start with all of this.
