Hi All,

I have a DIY stir plate made out of an cigar box. My problem is that my stir bar will not catch inside my 2l flask with water inside. The bar will catch siting on top of the cigar box just fine. I can place it in the flask with no water and spinsView attachment ImageUploadedByHome Brew1442292248.492899.jpgView attachment ImageUploadedByHome Brew1442292348.613752.jpg fine as well. The problem come in when I add water. Once the water is add it just rumbles to the side of the flask.

I have included photos to show what I am working with.

I would appreciate any guidance or advice any one can give.

Thanks

How far are the magnets from the inside of the lid? They should be only about a millimeter. When the top is on.

Also. It's hard to tell, but the stir bar looks shorter than the distance that the magnets are apart, but the could just be refraction I guess.

It's hard to tell from the picture how the fan is oriented within the box.

My stirplate is also DIY and it is only MOSTLY centered in its container. So, if I am not carefulto make sure the center of the flask is over the center of the magnets, it throws the stirbar . Also, speed is an issue. I can't turn mine all of the way up. But 75% give me a very nice vortex.

actionjackson905 and QuadConPana, thanks for the suggestions. I got it running and maintaining a whirlpool.
