Was there anything wrong with the 1144 pot other than it is hard to weld and it wasn't suitable for doing double batches ?

I want to do 6 gallon batches, finished size. 1 full corny plus some bottles. I have 7 gallon fermentors. Do you see any issue with using the 1144 and the basket for this purpose ?

You've mashed 20 pounds in the 1144 basket ? 20 x 32 x 75% (full sparge) = 480 gravity points

1080 for a 6 gallon beer, nearly 1.100 for a 5 gallon beer. A bit optimistic because there will be losses along the way. A fool can dream, right ?

Are those ultra low wattage elements ? Do you have any issues with scorching during mashing or boiling ?

How are you lifting the basket out ?

Nice build !

Three years later since the last post, this thread is still on my bookmarks. Always come to check it out as a reference. I was a total newbie when I found it, and now that I understand just a lil bit more about brewing I have so much more respect for this build. great job

Lol. 4 years since I last posted here. I still follow the thread.

In the meantime I built Thing1 (see sig) which was heavily inspired by this build.

It's a shame one can't buy something like this commercially.
