Has anyone ever seen Boondock Saints? There's that one part in the movie where the two brothers wake up at the same time gasping for air. Well the same thing just happened to me but instead of realizing that I need to go kill a bunch of people, I realized I needed to go check the porter I brewed yesterday. I used a kit recipe but added in an extra pound of dark DME and I accidentally filled up my 6 gallon carboy too much (to about 5 1/2 gal.). When I went to check on it, luckily the airlock hadn't blown off, but there was some crusted ooze coming from the top of it. I quickly sanitized a new stopper and airlock and capped that bad boy up. It looks like the krausen receded an inch or two to the point where it doesn't seem like it will rise and compromise my situation again. But, because I'm still relatively new at this, I was wondering if looks are deceiving me and if the krausen can still rise from the ashes like a fallen phoenix and make a big mess in my mommies favorite closet.

The Boondock Saints sequel was really disappointing, but you might still paint the ceiling. You almost found out why blow off tubes are beautiful, but don't worry, you'll get another chance.

+1 for blow off tubes.

FYI waking up not breathing is called sleep apnea not divine intervention; if that happens often I would go get checked, it is possible that you wont wake up the next time... :cross:

Not quite like that. I have sleep apnea,& it's not exactly gasping for air. It's the muscle tissue that connects the tongue to your throat that goes out of control for a very brief moment. it cuts of your breathing just long enough to wake you up.
It's more like sleeping lightly,& this slight little thing wakens you. When I'm awake,it can also cause trouble. It also causes a gag reflex for 30 seconds or so. Bloody anoying.
