Different beers force carb at different rates?

I kegged 2 beers a little over 2 weeks ago. One was Ed's pale and the other a high gravity bourbon barrel porter. The Pale Ale is nice and carbed but the porter is still flat. They are on the same reg so it can't be that. I vented the porter and put the gas line back on it and could hear it fill.

Do different beers take a variable amount of time to carb?

Shouldn't. Well, not in any sort of noticeable way. (density of liquid mass and all).

How is the pour on that line? Foamy?

Yeah, the pour on the Pale Ale is pretty foamy.

So here are some possible reaosn for foaming.

• Over carbed.
  
• Real short lines
  
• Warm taps
  
• Seal between liquid pst and liquid dip tube has fail, allowing co2 into the dip tube.

Thanks Denny. I think it is the latter of those. Since they were both carbed together, the lengths are the same, and the picnic taps are in the fridge.

You said they are on the same regulator? Are you using a splitter?

If you used only one pressure then the answer is yes, they would need to be carbonated at different pressures.

If you have a Pale Ale and a Hefe Weizen at the same pressure the HW would be undercarbed. If you raised the pressure to carb the HW and kept the PA hooked up (at the same pressure) then it become overcarbed.

Different beers have different carbonation levels.
