So last July I planted a Columbus hop plant. It never really got more than about 8" tall, I assume because it was planted as the days were getting shorter.

To my surprise, that Lil guy popped right back up this spring. It's growing slowly, but only one vine has sprouted. All my rhizome plants have multiple bines. Is there a difference between rhizomes and rooted plants?

I wouldn't think so, but am curious as to why this guy seems shy. Although we have been getting a lot of snow and cold.

Should I chop it down like the rest of my second years? Is Columbus finicky?

Plants grow from rhizomes. That's why your Columbus plant sprouted again this year. Not all hop plants sprout at the same time.
