So for my second ever BIAB I used 8 lbs Dom. 2 row.

@ 5.5 gal my fermenter OG was 1.042 @ 60'

online calc says should be 1.040 @ %75 so what's mine come too in efficiency?

My first batch I think I got high %60s so as recommended I crushed a lot finer.

Guess it worked?

Beer is for a party for a friend. Mixed crowd. wanted a simple beer working with what I had on hand.

Recipe:

8 lbs 2 row mash at 154 for one hour BIAB
full boil one hour.
.5 OZ Columbus 60 min
1.3 oz liberty 40 min
1.3 oz liberty 5 min

og WAS 1.042

One advantage that BIAB has over other methods is the fact that it's REALLY hard to get a stuck sparge! ;)

Therefore, feel free to crush as fine as you like and see what efficiency you can get. You may not actually WANT 85%, but with the right process you could probably get there.

I think I shoot for 75% and bounce around that area using the same mill gap I use for my cooler mash tun.

I hang right around 75% using my current method, which is fine by me, because that's how I'm calculating my recipes.

That's 30 min mash w/pour over sparge and crushed pretty fine.

For 5.5 gal of 1.042 from 8 lbs of two row, I calculate your brewhouse efficiency to be 78%-80%. Depending on whether the grain potential was 1.036 or 1.037 points/lb.

Brew on :mug:
