i just kegged for the first time, set it to 12 psi. and plan on leaving it alone for a week or so before drinking. My question is: How often do I have to depressurize (pull pressure valve ) the keg if at all during this time??

Are you trying to carbonate the beer? Cause at 12psi it'll take awhile for the liquid absorb the CO2. You could leave it at 12psi forever.

There is no need for you to depressurize your keg. At 12 psi you should be able to set it and forget it. Of course this depends on the volumes of CO2 you’re shooting for and your set up.

im going for around 2.4

My set up (for now) is: mini fridge, converted, at 40 degrees. 5# co2 tank, with a corny and a cobra tap with 5ft tubing

You need to vent the keg when you first attach the CO2 to purge any Oxygen out. After that, if your reg is set at 12 psi, with those specs, yeah, just leave it. There is no reason to vent it unless you wanna waste CO2 just for kicks.
