Most distribution circuits (13.2 kV or less) that supply residential power are going to be Wye ground secondary configuration with a single phase feed to the home..
This is for our brewery, an industrial commercial building wired 208 3phase 200 amps

Ok. What's the configuration of your GSU? Is it a primary or secondary service connection?

A quick Google search revealed this is a General stepdown unit?

What we currently have is an electrical utility room (which I have requested access) that feeds our 200amp panel. Next time I am onsite I'll look for a transformer or hopefully gain some insight by looking at the main panel in the utility room

My main reason for asking is to determine what your secondary wiring configuration is. Most distribution level load customers have either Yg/Yg or Yg/Δ Step Up/Step down transformers. The secondary connection would go a long way toward helping you determine whether Y or Δ elements were best.

Do you have any suggestions when I am onsite what to look for? Should I take a picture of the ID tags at the transformer and or main panel?

Are you saying look at how the secondary wiring is performed? I assume this would be the transformer from the city to the main panel?

If you have 3 phase 208V, then this would be a Wye Connection. This would be three 208V hot legs and a neutral. Otherwise you would not be able to have 120V loads.

You should be able to make either the delta or wye heating elements work with what you have, but it would be nice to see a wiring diagram for the element before making a purchase. I would reach out to the company and try to get this information.

I currently purchased the Delta config but am having Glacier hold this order until I can verify the power type.

So to confirm, since I do infact have 120v in the building this confirms a Wye wiring and I should order the Wye elements.

Not necessarily - you may have open delta service which is 3 phase 120/240V with a 208V power leg. Contact your electric utility and find out exactly what you have.

If you are a load customer, you should have a three line and single line diagram on site showing your transformer configuration and other important aspects of your service.

It's been a while since i originally posted. We have confirmed we have 3 phase wye service and have purchased two styles of elements. One style for the HLT and the other for kettle. We purchased (3) 12kw elements specifically designed for wye service for our kettle. These elements are working great. The cheaper (3) 12kw elements in our HLT are performing around 1/3 the power. We assume these are designed for Delta wiring.

Can we wire these delta even tho we have Wye service?
