Wondering peoples thoughts on using California Lager yeast for a Dead Guy Ale Clone. It's considered a Maibock ale and while this wouldn't truly be lagering it I thought this might change things up a little bit from all the recipes I've been seeing out there.

Grain list is as follows:

10 Maris Otter
1 lb Munich
1 lb Caramunich
.5 lb Crystal 20

Has anyone tried this?

Sounds like a good beer, but I'm not sure it would be much like Dead Guy.

I'm not sure I'd call Dead Guy a maibock, even though that is of course where the recipe got its start. Pacman yeast is pretty central to the identity of Rogue's beers. Using a steam beer yeast could be interesting and might even make it closer to a traditional maibock, but I think every step in that direction would be a step away from Dead Guy.

Plus, that's a pretty different grain bill than the one the CYBI guys got from Rogue, but it sounds good in its own right.

In any case, let us know how it turns out! :mug:
