Compressors in newer refrigerators generally aren't considered worth replacing due to the cost compared to the cost of replacing the whole unit. But you can call an appliance repairman to get a more accurate answer.
You could probably just pick up a new/used fridge and re-use all of the hard parts (taps, stems, lines, etc.) to build a working system. check craigs list, so. cal is usually full of used fridges.
