I havent done a dark ale before but am thinking
Of using the following ingredients ( im after a nice long lasting creamyish head. I also want it to be around the 5.2% or above

1 can of coopers dark ale(or similar)
1kg of dark malt extract
1kg of light malt extract
Super alpha hops (25g)
Cascade hops (15g)
Head retetion agent (50mls)
Safale yeast

Is there possible to much malt extract? And how long would i steep the hops for.??

I used the Cooper's dark ale can with 3lbs of Munton's plain amber DME with EKG & Haulertaur hops. OG was 1.050,FG was 1.010. So ABV% by Cooper's formula was 5.86%. It had a ruby cast to it when light shown through. Flavor was like a dark cream ale.
So it's my opinion that you don't need the dark or light extract. Just get a 3lb bag of plain amber DME (I like Munton's for English styles),& a couple ounces of hops. The dark extract may likely push it towards porter territory.
Cascade hops would be out of place unless your goingfor some weaker version of a black IPA.
