Sour and bitter are two very different flavors with completely different sources. Its difficult to diagnose beers without tasting them but its impossible if the descriptions aren't standard for beer evaluation.

I don't know where in the world you are, but you might see if you can join a homebrew club and see if they can help you identify what's going on. Or enter a competition, so you'll get the feedback from two judges about what they think is going on.

FWIW, if its sour, its likely a wild yeast or sanitation issue. If its bitterness, its likely hops. If its astrigency or tannins, that could be grain or sparging related.
 
hi @pappers thanks for that! I've given it to some friends to try out. Indeed it's hard to describe the taste.
