just checking to make sure but the specialty grains that come with a cream stout kit should be black and brown and smell like chocolate? correct me if i am wrong but the reason i am asking is because i recently got two kits a black dog ale which is a amber color ale and a cream stout but when i opened the packages the grains in the black dog ale were all over the place the bag had broke and smelled of chocolate and the grains that i received in the cream stout kit where all lighter in color. just want to know if i thought right i have never brewed either of these beers before so im not 100%. thanks for any input

Sounds correct to me- Stout should be the darker grains with hint of chocolate. Where did you order from? The grain mix up I can almost forgive, because they are easily differentiable, but the bag was broken open? I would contact them, rather then find out you didn't have all the gains end up over steeping to make up for it and ruin a brew.

i ordered from midwest homebrew supplies i called them this morning and they are sending me new grains for the cream stout.
