If anyone ever believed the phony punk ethic that made the Sex Pistols what they became, then that is actually an excellent rendition! I liked the sex pistols, and I also thoroughly enjoyed that video!! :D

There's no anger against society in that version.
That group isn't facing the 30+% unemployment that the originals were;)

Pretty much anything Dylan wrote/sang.

Great (if not the greatest) songwriter - but let's be honest. He doesn't exactly have the best voice.

I tend to like most Dylan covers more than the original, but I think I'll call this one a tie. They are extremely different songs.

Ministry's cover of "Lay Lady Lay"

I'm partial to Tom Waits' interpretation of "Somewhere," from West Side Story.

Incidentally, take a look at this list of artists who have covered Waits' songs; he's got to be one of the most-covered artists of recent history.

EDIT: Here's the list, as per this website, of the most-covered artists.

Oompa Loompa you bastige! I was going to post that! Johnny Cash's version is so much more soulful and wailing, unlike Trent Reznor's whinyass bitch "poor me let me kill myself on this pile of money blow and whores" version.

I officially felt old when I was in Fred Meyer the other day, and I heard a muzak type generic cover of "Sweet Child Of Mine" playing over the intercom.

Ah there it is. It was Sheryl Crow. I still hate it.

I love Coal Chambers version of Shock the Monkey. I also like Cradle of Filths version of Hallowed Be Thy Name.

What? It's a good song by a mucho hot singer...

:D

Although I don't think Johnny Cash's version of NIN's "Hurt" was "better", I highly respected him for crossing over genres and doing it.

Even Trent Reznor thought it was better. I agree that "better" is a subjective term, but no one could have sang that song better than JC, and im not even a fan of his.

folk tunes throw this thread on it's head...

good stuff though!

What was Reznor going to say? It sucked?

But like you say, subjective. I'm not a big fan of either, really, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. :mug:

Jimi Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower" by Bob Dylan. Dylan's version sucks, IMO.
Anybody's cover of a Dylan song is better than Dylan's rendition. Fantastic songwriter...AWFUL singer.

Dave Matthews does a great job with "Long Black Veil." Technically, it's a folk tune, but Johnny Cash popularized it slightly. This isn't the best video, and I've heard the band do a better rendition, but it's the best that YouTube had to offer.

Not completely true

I don't think this song would sound any better with a good voice, it would be just wrong

Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart played on kitchen appliances. It's worth seeing through to the end. :)
