Good Evening All,
I have recently rekindled my home brewing and I will be kegging for the first time.

I went out and purchased a couple used kegs (1 for $10 and the other 2 for $27 each). I also purchased new o-ring sets (the poppet’s are clean and hold pressure).

So my question is, I am cleaning the kegs with an industrial detergent (used for cleaning in large dishwashers) 1) is that a bad detergent to be using?

I soked the kegs in this detergent for 24 hrs. 2 of the kegs came out extremely clean (shinny and everything) I rinsed thoroughly and believe I only need to pressure test and sanitize. The other one cleaned up nicely, but the inside is a dull grey color. 2) What is the reason for that? 3) Is it clean?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Also what would you recommend for a keg cleaning (PBW)? I would like to use the proper solution.

Thank you,
Shawn
