I bought an old cornelius keg at a street fair, and it is missing the top part of the valve in the "door". That is, supposing it had a top part to begin with? I can't tell if this is an emergency/automatic pressure relief valve, or a manual valve with the top broken off. Basically it seems to have a white t-shaped plastic bit inside, but it's not moveable so far as I can tell and I don't think I can figure out how it works without breaking it. My question is: what type of valve is this, typically? If it's a manual valve, any ideas on good places to order a replacement?

I'm brewing ginger beer in said keg, since it keeps a seal nicely. So far I have been relieving the pressure by sticking a pen in the "in" hole.

Thanks

post a picture if you could. No way of knowing if you have a pin lock or ball lock keg. Ball lock kegs have an "automatic" pressure relief valve that can also be pulled "manually". Pin locks do not have this. If it's a ball lock keg, you can get a new relief valve from just about any brew supply shop on the net or local.

It's a pin lock. Hopefully this photo will come through.

Yikes! Dude, how about cutting that pic down to something like 640x480 so it doesn't spread halfway across my triple monitors?

What you have is a pin lock keg, which doesn't have a manual pressure release. It does look like the existing auto-magic relief valve got croaked, so you're going to need to either get that plastic thingie replaced, or replace the entire lid...

Cheers
