I'm wanting to covert my 5 gallon coller into a mashtun. I'm hoping to make it for as cheap as posiable without sacrificing quality. What all will I nee to convert it? I know you need some sort of false bottom, but my cooler has wheels and that creates indentations on the inside of the cooler so the bottom isn't flat. Is that a deal breaker or is there something I can do? Thanks!

You don't need a false bottom if you're going to batch sparge. A "bazooka" screen tube or home-made braided version (I'd stuff it with SS springs) will work, and would be a lot cheaper than going the false bottom route.

You could even construct a manifold using copper tubing and if done well that could support fly sparging.

The practicality of a conventional false bottom is all in the fit to the vessel.
Gaps render FBs useless, and it sounds like your cooler would be problematic to fit an FB...

Cheers!

Thanks for te reply! I'm fine with batch sparging I would actually prefer it. Could you list all the things I would need for the conversion? Thanks.
