Hi..

Terryville Connecticut here.

I've always had my eye on home brewing for

1. I love quality beer.

2. I am a swimming pool contractor & feel turning water to beer is perfect winter past time.

My equipment is showing up, everyday ups visits me...

Unfortunately all home brew dealers are about a 45 minute drive from me... So ingredients will be ordered online..

Cheers,
Ray

Welcome and congrats on getting started!

I've learned that a trip to the LHBS, even if it is quite a trip, is well worth it, especially just starting out. Loads of advice and help that you just can't get online. Even if you can find answers here, it's no substitute from hanging at the shop for an hour or two, sipping beers and chatting about brewing. I didn't spend to much at my LHBS in the beginning because online was cheaper (similar reason as distance) and one day when I told the guy what I had read online, he said "yeah, you can find good info online...but you can also brew that way for years and not know how to pronounce Willamette" Since I had been reading it for months and pronouncing it in my head as William-et it suddenly clicked. Now a bit more of a drive or cash spent is well worth the intangible amount of info I have gleaned just hanging out there.

Beer and wine hobby in east hartford is recommended (one of the owners if i'm not mistaken just opened firefly hollow brewing in your neck o the woods), if you can make the trek, Zok's in Willimantic even more so. Dude's shop is plastered with ribbons, knows his stuff, and happens to be a few blocks from Willimantic brewing company...well worth the drive.

Welcome from Danbury! I agree w/Evan, an occasional trip to your local(or not so local HBS) is definitely worth it. I love Maltose Express in Monroe, CT. The owners are very friendly, and extremely helpful. They even have a couple of books of clone recipes(they sell the clone kits there, as well). Good luck with all of your brewing adventures!
