Confused about beer line

All of the threads I have read say that the best tubing to use for beer line is 3/16". All of the liquid disconnects i have seen for ball lock kegs have 1/4" barbed fittings. Am I missing something? Does the 1/4" barbed fitting fit the 3/16" tubing?

Yes, it's a nice snug fitting where the clamps are just extra insurance. I recommend using 3/16" beer line and 1/4" barbs for everything, both beer and gas. Leaks will not be a problem and changes will be easy with everything standardized.

Yup, get that 3/16" tubing nice and warm by holding it under the running hot faucet for a minute or so and it will slide right on.

1/4" ID tubing has much less resistance than 3/16" ID tubing. 1/4" would be used for long runs, 3/16" is used for runs of 10' or less. If you use 1/4" tubing on a run of 10' or less you will get mostly foam.

And yes, as already mentioned the 3/16" tubing fits snugly on 1/4" barbs.

It helps to put the tube in really hot water and then force fit onto the barb.

It's still a PITA, but much less so

I hold mine over the mouth of a boiling kettle for 30 seconds or so when attaching/disconnecting from a barb. Works great.

Small pan of boiling water here. Works great. No clamps.
