I've been reading alot of different post about kegging beer. My question is this. I usually leave my beer in the primary for 2 weeks then bottle for 4 weeks. Now, If I start kegging, do i do the same thing except let it condition in the keg for those 4 weeks instead of bottles? Makes sense to me to condition and carbonate at once. Should I condition at a certain temp then? I was thinking I should just force carbonate so I don't have to worry about priming sugar.
 
I'm completely new to kegging, have read this website for months and here's what I'm doing now for my current batch:

14days in primary
Rack to secondary and cold crash 7 days
After cold crashing, prep keg for transfer (fill with gas and purge a couple of times to get rid of O2) rack to keg and set PSI @ 11-12
Taste after 7 days of carbing, may take 1-2 weeks on gas to carb as desired

By this time I feel I should have mature tasting beer that's carbed up nicely...of course we will find out in 2 weeks, beginning my cold crash tonight.
 
I usually primary 4 weeks or primary/secondary 2 weeks each. By that time most beers can go straight to the keg. I force carbonate in my keezer (38F) @ serving pressure (11#) for 3 weeks than hook up the tap and pour. I have six taps and a decent pipeline so the waiting doesn't bother me. Patience comes easy when you don't have to be!!!

You want to rack your beer to the keg THEN purge a couple times to get rid of the O2 in the head space!
 
Seven, why would you not purge the keg with CO2 first so that there is a blanket protecting your beer as you transfer? Thereby no contact with O2.
 
I also primary 4 weeks or some combo with secondary to get to 4 weeks, rack to keg, force carb at serving pressure/temp for at least 1 week, though more commonly 2, serve. Working great!
 
If you have the lid off of your keg when you are racking your beer into the keg, cant oxygen get in then?
I always rack my beer, seal the lid, then purge a few times.
Am I wrong?
 
The theory being this...CO2 is heavier than O2 and falls to the bottom of the keg. As the beer level increases it pushes up the CO2 which in turn pushes out the O2. Limiting any contact with O2 at all. Even with Shelly's method I personally would still purge the keg first, then fill. I also hit the keg with 30psi once or twice to get a good seal.
 
It matters not

Rack to the keg and purge. Or purge then rack.
Either way, it's about 5 minutes of contact time... My beer gets that just taking gravity samples!
