I am going to brew a english brown ale and plan to cold crash. Would adding a clarifier during the boil be any benefit?

From what I've read, clarifiers added at the boil (i.e whirlfloc) help with dropping kettle trub. That would not target anything in the fermenter I believe. You'd still need a clearing agent in the fermenter. I always use gelatin as my fining agent. There's a good process for this here if you've never done it.
