CO2 tank position

Can you use a co2 tank in the horizontal position or does it have to remain vertical?

It has to remain vertical, because it's a liquid and the way it's dispensed. At least, that's my understanding.

Paintballers use anti-siphon tubes so they can use CO2 tanks horizontally. I suspect something could be adapted for keg dispensing, but I do not know if anyone has already done it.

Yes, or built into a valve screwed on to the bottle exit. You can buy 20 oz. anti-siphon tanks, or you can convert them.

I thought many paintball guns used expansion chambers? Liquid into the expansion chamber where it turns to gas?
