is it possible to use a co2 tank as a beergas tank for nitro beers? or are the tanks different? trying to decide if i need another cyl or if i can just use the one i have...

You'll need a different regulator too. Actually, it's probably just the fitting that connects to the tank and the high-side gauge that's different. Usually the tank/reg are for nitrogen which is at a higher tank pressure than CO2. The tank valves have the CGA 580 connection which is used for several inert gases (Helium, Argon, Nitrogen).
