Can I buy a regular apple juice and add say a teaspoon of sugar to each bottle and some yeast and get cider?

The country I live in, apples are very very expensive.

Thanks in advance.

You could add yeast to your container of apple juice, as adding sugar is not required to make hard cider; let it ferment out and then put it into bottles. The idea is to leave the trub in the fermenter (jug of apple juice), and bottle very clear cider only.

Edit: Cold crashing always seems to help clear both beer and cider.

One more thought: if you want sparkling cider you need to add a small amount of sugar (I use 8 g/l for cider) at bottling time after the initial fermentation is complete.
