Checking density in secindary fermentor

I'd like to know if you guys check the density in the sencodary fermentor to see if the fermentation is done ? Is removing the ailock on the fermentor can ruin the beer? thanks for the anwers
 
I don't. I usually finish fermenting in primary. Then transfer to secondary (when I used one). I would only bother transferring to secondary if I was actually adding more things to my beers. I.e. : racking onto fruit or aging in wood staves for flavoring. Otherwise I don't even use secondary. Most my beers sit around long enough to clear enough in primary there's no need to risk contamination transferring my beer around needlessly.

And no you won't ruin your beer by removing the airlock but if something gets into your beer it could infect your beer. But as long as you are sanitary you will be fine. And your beer too.
 
Agreed with rhe above, a secondary is not always needed.

But to address your specific question, yes you can check gravity readings in secondary, much like you should in primary. If you use a carboy to secondary as opposed to a bucket it is a bit harder but not by much. You can use a siphon, a wine thief, even a turkey baster, as long as they are properly cleaned and sanitized you are good to go.
 
Since you are posting in the Beginners section, I will agree with the above posts about secondary not being necessary - and also suggest avoiding it completely until you get comfortable with the process, including racking and sanitation. It's another chance for contamination or oxidation.
