Will the regular black "O" rings work in a BK at 212F? If not, where to get a 75 cent "O" ring without paying $8 shipping?

Need a hi temp "O" ring for the BK mounted thermometer. The one's that came with the thermometer and ball valve were red.

Have been using the regular black ones from the hardware store for the MLT at 170F temps. Anyone use these "O" rings for their BK?

Put one in a pan of boiling water and observe the result. If it fails at high temp it will loose it's shape and become either rock hard or almost gooey and stretchy. Either on is not a good indicator of high temp capability. Also consider the extra heat that they may be exposed to due to flame wash if you are useing gas for heat or as a booster for E-heaters. Once you test a couple and see the failure mode you can decide how many to buy from the local store and the rest from an O-ring specialist for high temp. Hope this helps, and please post up the results of any testing you may do. It would be very interesting.

Thanks Bobby. All set with "O" rings for now. The ones I have passed the boil test. Saved your web site for future use.

Thanks

Harbor freight has multiple types of orings and they list the temp ranges on them and the packs come with multiple sizes. They are about 6- bucks a pack at the store
