My blowoff tube is a mess, and my sanitizing solution is filing with krausen. I want to change out the sanitizing solution. Is there a process for doing this? Will I do something wrong if I just quickly place the end of the blowoff tube in a new bucket? I think I'm worried about back pressure. Any help would be appreciated.

I've done that a few times when I had really crazy krausen and filled up my 1qt mason jar I use. I just put sanitizer in another and drop the same blow-off back down in it.

Not sure you really want to replace the whole tube; most are big enough that they never really clog up. But hey if it's going to clog changing it out is better than having it all over your ceiling :p

Nope, go right ahead.

Make sure your sanitizing solution is lower than the end of the blowoff tube in your fermenter, otherwise it could create a reverse siphon on you and put all your sanitizer back into your fermenter.

this happened to me once... i just replaced with new bucket and i had no issues at all. you shouldnt have anything crawling into it and messing with the brew.

Thanks, and yes it is below the blowoff in the fermenter and no, I'm not going to change the whole tube-- it is a one inch diameter and seems ok. Thanks again, always much help here on homebrewtalk!!!

If it done blowing off just put an airlock on it.

No worry about back pressure and I've never had a 1" siphon back. Just drop the end in a new bucket.

For cleaning the tube when I'm done, I just tie a piece of parachute cord to a brush, drop it through and pull the brush through the tube
